Cub Scout Pack 2809

Our Pinewood Derby is less than 2 weeks away! It will be held Saturday, January 15, 2011 beginning 9:00 AM at Woolridge Elementary School. Our January Pack Meeting will be held the evening before on January 14th, also at Woolridge Elementary. Hopefully, your race cars are under construction! Please pay strict attention to the District rules.

Remember the spirit of this event is to have each Cub do their best to create their own racer, under adult supervision.  Do not purchase pre-made cars or kits from a craft store or on the internet, these will be disqualified.  You must use the official BSA kit, including axles and wheels.  Extra wheels and axles can be purchased at the Scout Shop if needed.  Pay special attention to the weight and dimension limits in the official rules.

Most of all, please keep good sportsmanship in mind during construction of the cars.

Adults, friends, and siblings can also participate in the Pinewood Derby.  We’ll hold some extra heats for non-Cubs.  Additional kits can be purchased at the Scout Shop.

First of all, I’d like to thank everyone for their help with the sale this year. As a Pack, we sold over $19,000 in popcorn, 30% of which will directly fund our budget and 40% of which will go to support the Council. Without YOUR help, it would not have been possible. Council-wide, the sale was so good this year that Trail’s End had to get more of the Chocolate Lover’s packages made up because they ran out! (More on that later…)

We have a few close-out items before we can call the sale complete, however. I still owe some of you some popcorn items to complete your orders. I have the Caramel with Almonds, Pecans, and Cashews right now. I’ll pick up the Chocolate Lover’s packages tomorrow or Friday, and will bring everything to the Pack Meeting this Friday.

Yes, there’s a Pack Meeting on Friday night. 7:00 pm, at Swift Creek Elementary.

The sale officially closes and all money is due to the Council on December 20th. What that means is that I need everyone’s money turned in to ME by December 13th (that’s Monday), to give a chance for checks to clear. I’ll bring my spreadsheet to the Pack meeting, if you want to bring money on Friday night.

Now about those prizes… In addition to the Fabulous Pack Prize Packages ™, which will be drawn randomly, our FOUR top sellers will choose a Leader (from among those volunteering) to hit in the face with a cream pie. Bring your video cameras on Friday night.

I also have PRIZES from Trail’s End. While I’ve not opened the boxes yet, they’re certainly big enough to hold marshmallow crossbows as well as the other items. I will distribute the prizes individually, as you’re paid up.

One last word, regarding the Mallow Blasters at the Council Office. The LAST DAY to receive a Blaster for a filled-up form is THIS FRIDAY, December 10th. Please direct questions there to brett.smiley@scouting.org.

Thanks again for all your hard work, and another good popcorn sale.  I’ll see you on Friday, and I’ll be bringing a smock to keep the whipped cream off of my shirt.

Our December Pack Meeting will be Friday Dec 10th.  Please bring an unwrapped toy to contribute to Toys For Tots.

We will practice some winter holiday songs for our caroling trip to a local nursing home.  This trip is scheduled for Sunday 12/12.  More details to follow.

Start your engines!  Pinewood Derby kits will be distributed at the end of the Pack meeting.  Get your kit so you can prepare your car for the January race.  The offiical Pinewood Derby car rules are found at:

This Pack meeting is also the best time to turn in your popcorn money. All money must be submitted to Dave Daniels by 12/13.  The Pack popcorn prizes will be given out at the meeting, so come and see who will be the big winners and who will get a pie in the face!
